Line numbers have also been added in pencil & a few passages marked by lines in margin. Some soiling throughout. Hinges reinforced. Contemporary blue boards, worn, crudely rebacked with cloth. Uncut. Modern bookplate.

viii + 224pp. Translation by J.H.Fuseli. Frontispiece engraving by William Blake slightly rubbed at borders but print surface clean. Owner’s signature & date 1831 at head of title page; in the same neat hand a translation of the epigraph from Juvenal and also in the top border of the frontispiece the translation of the Greek motto in Blake’s engraving, Know thyself. Edges slightly dusty but a sound and tight copy, later calf binding with gilt-decorated spine in fine condition. This was the only volume published, despite the statement End of Vol. I on p.224.
