The third (second authorised) edition of Sandys’ Ovid but the first illustrated and including the Virgil translation. Frontispiece engraved by Salaman Savery after Francisco Clein. Sixteen other engravings, one preceding the Life of Ovid and one for each Book of the poem. The plate to Book I has been repaired on the reverse. Staining to O3 slightly affects facing plate (to Book IV). C2 & C3 transposed. Sigs. E & F and their pagination incoherently numbered but textually continuous and without loss. Overall a very good copy with marbled edges and endpapers, bound in later half vellum with recent label, marbled boards somewhat abraded and spine somewhat darkened.
