Original paper-covered boards wearing at edges & somewhat rubbed, art-vellum backstrips darkened & rubbed. Small circular stamp of Edinburgh Academic Library on all 4 endpapers. Nice clean copies internally.

Includes both portraits engraved by G.Vertue, both suffering some offsetting. No half-title. Some slight staining bottom edge. Worming to top corner last two leaves. Extraneous calligraphic leaf bound in following Mm4. Contemporary calf with gilt spine, boards scuffed and stained.

A cutting of Raymond Gardner’s interview with Montgomery, The Guardian 1 July 1970, laid in.
